Dear Members

Several South African Universities are currently collaborating with the University of Edinburgh in conducting research on volunteers and volunteerism in sport. The aim of the research it so establishes needs and inform the development of coursework for prospective volunteers to best serve the sport industry and gain valuable work-related experience in the sector.

For this purpose, we have designed two online surveys, one for the organisation (appropriate for individuals in management positions), and the other for individuals who are engaged in volunteer roles in your organisation. The surveys focus on the acquisition of vocational (hard) and flexible (soft) to determine what you would consider as important for their training.

We thus kindly request you to read the short description under each link, complete the relevant survey and distribute these surveys within your network. Ethical clearance was obtained from the University of Edinburgh (CNAS18082022). The surveys will be open to the end of April so that we can implement the findings already in 2023.  Thanks for being part of the solution and you active engagement in the project.

ORGANISATION SURVEY

We aim to understand how your organisation utilizes volunteers in sport. To achieve this, we have created this short survey to record your views. Broadly, we would like to understand how you recruit and deploy volunteers, how you support and train volunteers and any thoughts about how this could be improved.

INDIVIDUALS SURVEY

The research aims to understand your views about why you choose to volunteer in sport. To achieve this, we have created this short survey to record your views as a volunteer. Broadly, we would like to understand why you volunteer, how supported you feel and any thoughts about how your experience could be improved.
