South African Breakers Qualify for Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) in 2024.

Midian Ganyaza and Courtnaé Paul are the first B-girls in South African history to be granted placement in the Olympic Qualifier Series for Breaking, leading up to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Their outstanding performance in all qualifying competition legs earned them this honor.

The Federation of Dance Sport South Africa, received a confirmation that the athletes representing the NMB had been granted Quota Place(s) in the B-girl category to the Breaking event of the OQS after the 2023 WDSF African Breaking Championship in Rabat.

Let’s congratulate Midian and Courtnaé as they gear up for these upcoming events, with our unwavering support behind them. Let’s cheer them on as they strive for gold!

Join the excitement as Africa’s finest breakdancers take to the stage to battle for the title of African Champion in breaking!

Team South Africa, consisting of Toufeeq Baatjies, Brandon Petersen, Courtnaé Paul, and Midian Ganyaza, showed their skills at the WDSF Breaking Continental Championships Africa in Rabat, Morocco, this weekend. Midian Ganyaza achieved a remarkable 2nd place and Courtnaé Paul placed 5th, while Bboys Toufeeq Baatjies and Brandon Petersen made it to the top 16.
The Federation of Dance Sport South Africa congratulates the team on their outstanding performance, particularly Midian for her placement. The entire country is proud to have been represented on the international stage at the first direct Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier.
We are confident that this is only the beginning and that Team South Africa will continue to excel in future events.

The team, consisting of talented Bboys Toufeeq Baatjies and Brandon Petersen, as well as Bgirls Courtnaé Paul and Midian Ganyaza, will represent South Africa on the international stage at the first direct Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier.

Federation of Dance Sport South Africa’s president, Thabo Phiri, will be the Chef de Mission, while Gerald James aka Vouks will serve as the team manager. We extend our gratitude to the event organizers and team for their speedy invitation of officials and athletes.

IMPORTANT INFORmATION

Please read the following before completing and submitting your registration form.

1. Qualification for the Federation of Dance Sport South Africa National Breaking Championships will start at the Federation of Dance Sport South Africa Regional Qualifiers. These regional qualifiers will present Breakers with 3 opportunities to qualify for the National Championships via 2 live battles and 1 online qualifier.

  • Gauteng: March 19.2023
    (Regional Qualifier – Provinces invited to attend are; Gauteng, North West, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Free State & Mpumalanga.
  • Western Cape: March 26. 2023
    (Regional Qualifier – Provinces invited to attend are; Western Cape, Eastern Cape & Northern Cape)

An Online qualifier will see 1 spot available per WDSF Category (1Bgirl and 1BBoy) for those who are outside of the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces.

The closing date for online registrations is March 13.2023

More information about the process and closing dates for online video submissions will be shared upon the completion and submission of your registration.

2. A R180 registration fee applies per athlete.

3. Please note that only the Open Category age group is eligible for the WDSF World Breaking Championships; WDSF Breaking For Gold World Series and the Official Olympic Games.

4. Who Qualifies for What?
The top 5 Breakers from Gauteng, the top 10 Breakers from Western Cape, and the top beaker from the online Regional Qualifiers will automatically qualify to compete in the SA Breaking National Finals in Cape Town on April 30.2023.

5. Please note that competition Rules & Regulations apply and can be viewed on the Federation of Dance Sport South Africa website.
